Kerala with its highly conductive climate conditions provides scope for the development of ornamental fisheries . Augmenting the pace, a centrally sponsored Scheme through Fish Farmers Development Agency (FFDA) has been taken up by the State Development of Fisheries in all the 14 districts . In the Government sector , the Fisheries complex, Pannivelichira in pathanamthitta district and government modern fish farm, pallom in kottayam district have now been developed into centers of production of fresh water ornamental fishes. T he giant fish shaped aquarium near Malampuzha garden is one of the best attractions in the tourist center of palakkad. In Trivandrum district, there is a developing as a hobby among the people and there is Sample demand for fresh water ornamental fishes in the state. Under the circumstance a scheme on ornamental fish breeding and marketing is implemented through Matsyafed by organizing fishermen groups/societies. In view of the increased demand of ornamental fishes in the state, bulk of which is brought from other states, a National center of Ornamental fishes has been implemented through Fisheries Resource Management Society (FIRMA) at Neyyardam for the trade and export of ornamental fisheries on a commercial basis.
