A pond of 200 sq.meter size will be constructed with 1.2 M depth where the usual ground water table is below 1.5 m during rainy season. The soil excavated from the pond can be used for constructing bund all around the pond. Generally, the site for the construction of the pond is in such a way that the water from the pond can be drained fully by siphoning. The bottom of the pond is then lined with good quality 500 micron polythene sheet after levelling the bottom with good quality sand in order to avoid the puncturing of the sheet due to any of the sharp or pointed objects present in the pond bottom. Sometimes good quality sand may also be spread over the sheet in 3 to 4 inch thickness for creating a natural environment. Pond, thus prepared using polythene sheet is generally very close to the dwelling place of farmer which makes the culture practice very easier.
