  • Various Schemes by SAFF for Empowerment of Fisherwomen. 

  • Educational assistance schemes to ensure education to the children of fishermen.

  • Under the Vadiyathiram scheme, medical education has been ensured for the children of 68 fishermen.  

  • Fishermen / allied workers accident insurance cover has been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

  • Rs 25 crore shelter scheme and a Rs 2450 crore rehabilitation scheme for those who lost their land and homes due to the cyclone.

  • Interest-free loan schemes through Matsyafed to make fishermen owners of fishing equipment.
  • KIIFB projects and coastal infrastructure projects to change the face of coastal schools and markets.
  • Coastal infrastructure development projects have given a new face to coastal hospitals.
  • Manpower Development Schemes to enhance the sports and mental development of the children of Fishermen
  • Special training programmes for skill development of fishermen, fisherwomen and children.
  • Under LIFE Mission, 2576 fishermen have been provided houses and 101 families have been provided land and houses.
  • Keeping in view the special situation in the coastal areas, additional assistance of Rs.10,000 / -per family has been ensured for construction of toilets.
  • Coastal Road Development Project to improve coastal roads.
  • To ensure income for the fishermen, the Department of Labour in collaboration with the Department of Shade scheme.
  • Unparalleled rehabilitation projects.
  • Financial assistance for construction of houses and renovation of houses for fishermen families through Fisheries Department.
  • The Revolving Fund has been set up as a joint liability group for working fisherwomen.
  • Relief assistance to the dependents of fishermen who die due to accidental causes other than accident during or immediately after fishing and are not eligible for financial assistance under the Group Insurance Scheme.
  • Financial assistance for the marriage of the daughters of fishermen.
  • Financial assistance to the dependents of fishermen for post-death expenses.
  • A special project called Santhana Theeram will be implemented to ensure the continued treatment of fishermen and allied workers affected by the deadly disease.

  • Debt relief scheme for loans taken by fishermen up to December 31, 2008 and defaulted on financial repayments.

  • The monthly pension for fishermen in old age has been increased to Rs. 1600/-.

  • E-grantz has been implemented to provide timely and transparent access to educational benefits to the students of fishermen families

  • Free medical entrance training for students from fishermen families.

  • Free NIT / IIT training for students of past fishermen families.

  • Free civil service and bank test exam coaching for students from fishermen families.

  • Adoption scheme to ensure higher studies for students of fishermen families whose parents have died.  

  • Career Guidance Scheme for students belonging to fishermen families.

  • 10 Regional Fisheries Technical Schools to provide free education to the children of fishermen families.

  • Upgradation of Government Regional Fisheries Technical High Schools to Centres of Excellence (Centre for Excellence).

  • Awareness programme for students of fishermen families.

  • Savings Relief Scheme benefit has been increased from Rs.2,700 to Rs.4500/-.

  • Karode 128, Beemapally 20, Muttathara 192, Kollam QSS Colony 114 and Ponnani 128 have been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries.

  • The project includes development of infrastructure and human resource development in the coastal areas, health sector, education sector and other infrastructure development activities (development of sports grounds and construction of utility centres) in the coastal areas.
