The multi species fish hatchery is situated in Odayam of Thiruvananthapuram district and the hatchery units ensures availability of Shrimp and Fresh water prawn seeds for the small scale farmers of the state in reasonable rate, for their culture activity. Thus the hatchery goes hand in hand with the government policies in promoting aquaculture activities in the rural segments especially of Trivandrum and Kollam districts of Kerala. The trial run for the seed production of mud crab, Scylla serrata is in progress. For ensuring the quality of shrimp seeds, a well equipped PCR laboratory is also functioning at Odayam.
